This year’s ACM Awards, which were held Sunday, April 19, was a success.
The ACM Awards acknowledge artist accomplishments for 2014. The three and a half hour show was co-hosted by Blake SheltonÂ and Luke Bryan and had an estimated 70,000 in-person audience. This yearâ€™s ACM awards made the Guinness Book of World Records for being the Most Attended Live Awards Show of All Time. Sheltonâ€™s co-host Bryan won the nightâ€™s top prize, taking home the Entertainer of the Year award. Eric Church and Keith Urban opened up the award singing the Pledge of Allegiance to the Hag and Raise â€˜Em Up. George Strait also took the stage singing “All My Exâ€™s Live in Texas.” The King of Country Music was awarded the ACM Milestone Award and performed his new song, “Let It Go.”
Miranda Lambert also performed. She sang “Mamaâ€™s Broken Heart” and “Little Red Wagon.” Garth Brooks did a salute to soldiers by singing “All American Kid.” Alan Jackson sang a rendition of “Where Were You” in remembrance of the victims of 1995â€™s Oklahoma City bombing. Sam Hunt sang “Take Your Time,” and Nick Jonas sang “Chains.” Other performances were made by Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Chesney, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett and Cole Swindell. Taylor Swift didnâ€™t perform Sunday. However, she accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from her mother.
Lambert took home the most trophies at the awards. She was one of the seven honorees of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award. She also won Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Platinum, and Song of the Year for “Automatic.” She was surprised by all the wins. According to CBS news, she stated, “I donâ€™t even realize whatâ€™s happening tonight.” She also said, “I donâ€™t know why Iâ€™m up here receiving this among all these other amazing artists.”
There were also awards given to several others. These awards included Male Vocalists of the Year awarded to Jason Aldean, New Artist of the Year awarded to Cole Swindell, Single Record of the Year awarded to Lee Brice for I Donâ€™t Dance. Dierks Bentley was awarded video of the year for Drunk on a Plane. Florida Georgia Line was awarded Vocal Duo of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year was awarded to This is How We Roll and Vocal Group of the Year was awarded to Little Big Town. Along with Lambert, the honorees of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award went to Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunn, and Kenny Chesney.
