The Zac Brown Band heated up a chilly evening in Michigan with a steamy 25-song set.
Detroit’s Number One country music station, 99.5 WYCD, celebrated their 21st birthday with one hell of a party. The Zac Brown Band, along with opening act Ryan Kinder, warmed up Michigan at one of the last outdoor shows of the year. With over three hours of music between the two artists, there was something played for every fan in attendance. The Zac Brown Band covered all of their hits and some cover songs not normally heard from a country band.
Opening the show with “Whiskey’s Gone,” the crowd was hooked just in time to be treated to covers of “Kashmir” from Led Zepplin, and “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” from Charlie Daniels. This mixture of hits would turn into a five song acoustic set about halfway through the show. The band was seated out on the catwalk, and treated fans to an intimate performance of their hits, “Sweet Annie” and “Toes” before heading into a cover of Garth Brooks’ “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” and Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.”
The momentum continued all the way though the second half of The Zac Brown Band set with hits like “Free,” “As She’s Walking Away,” and a cover of Marshall Tucker’s “Can’t You See.” Very few bands can hold everyone’s attention over the course of 25 songs. As the band entered it’s encore, it was clear everyone was excited for a few more. The encore included “Day For The Dead,” Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and closed with their biggest song ever “Chicken Fried.” The set included the energy, the hits, the covers, and the atmosphere to give off that musical high so often sought by die-hard live music fans. This is exactly how every artist should perform a live show.
Ryan Kinder from Alabama opened the night. He is a talented guitarist/singer who deserves the attention. A Southern rock/country sound, the early arriving fans were treated to an upbeat 40-minute set. He closed his set with his single “Kiss Me When I’m Down,†which is sure to be a hit nationwide hit on country radio charts. He is currently working on his first full-length album.
On tour through the end of October, The Zac Brown Band is definitely one of the must-see artists in any genre today.
