The big man himself, Colt Ford, brings a little bit of everything to the Machine Shop.

Country music fans in Flint, MI were treated to one of their favorite artists,  Colt Ford. Known worldwide for it’s rock and roll shows, The Machine Shop occasionally hosts “Country Night,” and Colt has been a staple there for years. His style called hick-hop is a mix of country, rap, and a little bit of rock and roll.

Colt is by far one of the hardest working men in the country music business. The collection of accolades in his back pocket is growing. Soon after starting in the business, he co-founded the label Average Joes Entertainment, through which he has released five studio albums to date.

Over the years, his songs have included many country music legends and rising stars. His first record, Ride Through the Country, featured duets with John Michael Montgomery, Jamey Johnson, and Brantley Gilbert. Since the first record ,the list of stars appearing has grown to include legends like Charlie Daniels, Tim McGraw, and hip hop icon DMC of Run DMC. Some of country musics rising stars have been featured on all of Colts albums as well, including Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Jake Owen, and Keith Urban. Colt Ford recently earned his first gold certification from the RIAA for his #1 single, “Drivin’ Around Song,” featuring Jason Aldean.

Fans lined up hours before his show at The Machine Shop. Once Colt took the stage, he opened with the song, “Answer To No One,” from his record Declaration of Independence, which reached #1 on Billboard’s top country charts in 2012. The show would continue with hits and crowd favorites including, “Mr. Goodtime.” The main set would end with the title track from his latest record, “Thanks For Listening,” which pays homage to the rock solid fan base he has created for himself over the years. Only a few seconds after leaving the stage, the band quickly returned for an encore. “Dirt Road Anthem,” was the song chosen to close the show. Originally recorded as a duet with Brantley Gilbert, and most recently recorded by Jason Aldean, the song is a crowd favorite no matter which artist is performing it.

Colt Ford brings one of the most attention grabbing country shows around. His energy will engage any audience. Of course, Colt’s band is also phenomenal; during the live show, they are performing the parts of songs previously recorded with the aforementioned stars. They are not in the darkness at the back of the stage, but rather out front in the lights where they can be seen. Some of the best musicians in the industry, Spencer “Spanky” Bassett, Paul Chapman, Justin David, Tim Haines, and Cole Phillips make up the current band. They bring just as much energy as Colt and together it makes a must see show.

Always on the road, Colt Ford will surely roll through your town at some point. Do yourself a favor and go check him out. It is guaranteed you won’t be seeing an average country show, but rather a show you won’t soon forget.

Me, Myself, & I were born and raised in metro Detroit. I have been photographing since I first discovered the throw-away camera. I spent most nights of my youth in concert venues developing a love for the live show. In the past couple of years I have combined those two hobbies. For me there is no better escape than having music to hear and a lens to look through. I looked forward to sharing my photographic eye with you here on National Rock review.
